Part 1: The Implant

A dental implant is a small, titanium or zirconia screw that is surgically placed into your jawbone. Over time, the implant fuses with the bone, creating a strong foundation for your new teeth. Once the implant has fully healed, a connector piece is attached, which will hold your final restoration, such as a crown, bridge, or denture.

Part 2: The Abutment

Once the dental implant is securely in place, a connector piece called an abutment is attached. This abutment acts as a bridge between the implant and the final restoration, such as a crown, bridge, or denture.

If you have a titanium implant, the abutment is a separate piece that screws into the implant. However, with a zirconia implant, the abutment is often integrated into the implant itself, creating a seamless one-piece solution.

I had an appointment at B.dental studios with Dr. Mangine and I can’t sing her praises enough!
